Ringier Technology Innovation Awards 2022 – Packaging technologies

 

IN THIS report on the Ringier Technology Innovation Awards, we detail the winning materials and machines in the Packaging category. Organised by Ringier Trade Media Ltd, this event recognises the major technologies that contribute to the development of China's F&B manufacturing.  This year, the awarding ceremonies were held at the Guangzhou Huadu Crowne Plaza on August 25.

SABIC

Sustainable packaging solution for frozen food from SABIC

SABIC’s sustainable packaging solution for frozen food combines a new polyethylene (PE) grade BX202 with innovative film production technology. This solution is based on a mono layer sealable TF-BOPE film structure which has a thickness of only 20 micrometers. This thin gauge provides a potential packaging material reduction of approximately 35-50% compared to incumbent blown PE film. The reduced thickness minimises environmental impact and supports brand owners and retailers who are aiming to reduce their packaging material consumption. This packaging solution is also 100% recyclable and fits mono-PE recycling streams.

Automatic secondary packaging

 In particular, the Automatic Secondary Packaging for Shrink Wrapper is an advanced shrink-wrapping equipment within China at present. The thickness of the package material currently used is 0.033mm, which is of great ultra-thin grade in the global industry (the industry standard is 0.06mm-0.07mm). The equipment has a servo control system and adapts to a variety of formats, which are able to transfer formats through one-click as well as design automatically. The equipment is driven by 6-7 servo motors. It has the advantages of high automation. It is widely used in beverage, beer, chemical, food, medicine and other industries.

 Tech-Long also won an award for the Naked bottle stacking innovative technique, in which the whole line of naked bottles is automatically palletised. The bottles are transported from the conveying line and divided into multiple channels by the channel divider.  The bottles were pre-arranged by the first robot.  Through the conveyor belt finishing, it can reach the number of bottles on one layer.  At the same time, a second robot will put the folded partitions on the pallet in the palletising area, and the third palletising robot clamp will grab the bottles of the first layer, while protecting the four sides, and secures the bottles of the whole layer on the paper holder.  Before palletising each layer, a paper tray will be placed accordingly. After the layers reach the specified number, a top paper tray will be added to the top layer.  When the palletising is completed, the pallet is delivered to the strapping area by conveyor. After strapping, it will come to cover the stretching file, then the palletising of naked bottles is completed.
