Has the pandemic changed food packaging requirements?

In an interview with Dase-Sing Group in 2020, executive assistant Tony Huang said that the COVID-19 crisis would impact packaging design, material, and size. He based this on the growing demand specifically for health/healthy products. At the same time, he said consumers are also purchasing products such as bottled water in big or family sizes. Tony Huang, executive assistant, Dase-Sing Group Dase-Sing, which is a specialist in automatic rotogravure printing labels and automatic sleever machines, aims to meet these new market requirements.  “The growing online buying trend also means that manufacturers will emphasise on promotion frequency and optimum product impact. Since the focus is on health products, strategic promotion will use innovative packaging as a major consideration as well,” Mr Huang said. READ MORE More Products: DASE-SING GROUP SHOWROOM

New: FoodPacific Manufacturing Journal - September 2021

New ways to extend product shelf life are further helping companies and consumers reduce cost and waste. Shelf life, or the amount of time a product maintains its safety and quality before chemical or microbial changes occur, can be prolonged in many ways, from better formulations to the use of innovative packaging, and of course the processing methods and distribution.   Millisecond technology (MST) in particular is a pasteurisation technique that offers fresh shelf life in non-aseptic packaging for greater than 45 days, or more. For dairy, and even plant-based milks and fruit juices, MST pasteurisation is said to leave nutrients and natural flavours intact. The patented technology comes from Millisecond Technologies Corp (MSTC) and JCS Process and Control Systems (JCS), and is featured in the  processing  section of  FoodPacific Manufacturing Journal . In Southeast Asia, JCS partners with Nu Agri Asia, a Philippines-based consulting company for F&B.   This issue also contains inf

Inspirational women shaping engineering (Meet 5 from Mettler-Toledo Product Inspection)

Women have always been under-represented in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) workforce, and a 2019 report by UNESCO illustrated the true extent of this. It showed that in no part of the world, except for a few countries, do women outnumber men in the Research & Development workforce. Globally, less than 30% of those working in research fields were women.  There can be no doubt that women are starting to represent a higher proportion of the science and engineering workforce. However, any increases follow on from very low starting points. According to the US Census, for example, women working in engineering occupations increased from 3% in 1970, to 15% in 2019 [1] . That same year , there were more than 6.3 million female scientists and engineers working in the EU, accounting for 41% of total employment in science and engineering [2] .   In Asia specifically, there were found to be key differences across the continent. A handful of countries buck the glo
